Alouettes re-up with all-star tackle Bourke

When the free agent period opened up on Tuesday, no news was to be found on the status of Josh Bourke’s potential contract with the Montreal Alouettes. It wasn’t too long after that that news would break and Bourke was indeed re-signing with the Alouettes.

Bourke was arguably the top free agent on the board and would have received plenty of interest across the board should he have elected to test his market value.

Our take: It was especially imperative for the Alouettes to secure Bourke with a new deal given Michael Ola’s pending contract with the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. GM Jim Popp and the Alouettes would have been under a lot of pressure had both Bourke and Ola left.
