Alouettes welcome back linebacker Ferri

The Montreal Alouettes have gone to their past to re-build their defence after losing Canadian linebacker Shea Emry in free agency, announcing the signing of Diamond Ferri to a contract.

Ferri spent five seasons with the Alouettes from 2007 to 2011 where he compiled 240 tackles, nine sacks, five interceptions, and five fumble recoveries while being a member of the back-to-back Grey Cup winning teams in 2009 and 2010.

After being released in training camp in 2012, Ferri joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in August of that season and would remain in the green and white until the end of the 2013 season.

He recorded 25 tackles, one sack, and three interceptions with the Riders in two seasons, while winning his third Grey Cup Championship last year.

Our take: It would be hard to imagine Ferri gaining a starting spot with the Alouettes considering they boast Chip Cox and Kyries Hebert at the WIL and SAM linebacker spots. Ferri would not be a proper fit at middle linebacker. Ferri plays on an edge and fits right in with a ferocious Alouettes defence in that regard. He fell out of grace in Saskatchewan due to untimely penalties and an overall lack of discipline.
